Veterinarian
Dr. Gilbert was born and raised in Edmonton. He graduated with a degree in Zoology from the University of Alberta in 1971. He then went on to receive his DVM at the University of Saskatchewan in 1976. Soon after graduation, Dr. Gilbert moved to Fort McMurray and founded the Fort McMurray Animal Hospital, becoming the town’s first resident veterinarian. He has since worked on animals of all sizes and has even worked with the sled dogs of the Iditarod. He has a particular interest in orthopedic and laser surgeries.
Practice Manager
Barbara plays an integral role in the day-to-day activities at the clinic by managing the staff and controlling the finances. She and Dr. Gilbert moved to Fort McMurray in June 1976 to open the Fort McMurray Animal Hospital. She has been the Office Manager ever since. She has a senior cat named Dirty and a dog named Louie.
Chanelle Poirier
Registered Veterinary Technologist
Chanelle moved to Fort McMurray in 2011 and has been working at the Fort McMurray Animal Hospital since February 2015. Chanelle loves being involved in surgeries and has a particular passion for emergencies. In her spare time, she likes to spend time watching Netflix with her 8-year-old tabby cat Mylo.
Receptionist
Erica was born and raised in Fort McMurray, Alberta. She has been with the Fort McMurray Animal Hospital since September 2012. She has a great love for animals, including her own - Lu the Chihuahua, and Gus and Zoe the cats. She enjoys spending her evening and weekends exploring with the adventurous Lu.
